A fine quiet book with enough suspense to please and not enough to keep one up at night. In a very quiet country parish, one is introduced to mysteries with character development, romance, and a very large library in the Hall, roaring fires in winter and plush rugs. An undergraduate case of puppy-love is as well described as any in Dickens, worth the price of the book. Which is free on . But what will the Squire do? How will the beautiful and sad-faced Mrs Goddard deal with her unusual life? Is the Vicar up to giving the right advice at the right time???
Why don't they write stories like this anymore??
